khiphop-discussions:

Everything is problematic to varying degrees. That’s why I’ll never shame someone for still supporting kpop or khh or whatever rapper from the US or whatever musical or movie ( I mean as long as you are aware of what’s wrong with it and don’t try to shield it from criticisms). The fact of the matter is we ALL like at least one thing (although I think all of us probably like MANY more than one) that’s extremely problematic whether you wanna admit it or not.

I’m still personally trying to figure out how I feel about that. Realistically speaking we can’t just give up every single thing that’s problematic because realistically a lot of that stuff is the shit that gets us through our day and life. Right now I think it’s up to us to decide when to drop things that hurt us but when it’s someone else (for example a blog that fetishizes Asian people if you’re not Asian, a serial killer, a child molester or rapist) then it’s your responsibility to drop immediately because now you’re actively hurting someone else. I really don’t know but there does have to be some wiggle room because we can’t be perfect.

Amen
